TXT files may not be easy to read because the data is displayed as plain text. You can open the file in Microsoft Excel and format the data into separate columns for better readability.
- Open Microsoft Excel.
Go to File > Open and select the TXT file.
Browse to the folder where the TXT file is located and select the TXT file you want to open.
In the Text Import Wizard, select Delimited and click Next.
Under Delimiters, select Tab.
(Note: Depending on the TXT file, a different delimiter such as Comma (,) or Semicolon (;) may be used.)
Check the Data preview section to make sure the data is displayed correctly in separate columns. Click Next.
Click Finish.
The data will then be displayed in Excel in separate columns, making the file much easier to read.
Important: If you need to upload the TXT file to another organisation or system, do not save the file from Excel. Excel may change the file format or data structure when the file is saved, which could cause the file to become invalid or fail the upload.
You can open the TXT file in Excel for viewing purposes, but keep the original TXT file unchanged for uploading.
