Data Entry > Suburb Distances
Venus calculates and displays the distance a nurse has to travel from her base suburb to the Hospital or Patient’s base suburb using Suburb Distances. The distance provided is displayed in the Single Shift and Multiple Shift Rating Screens and is an estimate only.
To add a postcode -
- In the top half of the screen right mouse click and select Insert.
- Enter the Suburb, State and Postcode.
- Select – Get Lat and Long from Geoscience Australia. This creates a link to the Geoscience Australia website.
- Follow the directions on the Geoscience Australia website and insert the Place Name (Suburb), select “Towns and Localities” from Place Type and select the State. Do not use the Longitude and Latitude displayed but press the button underneath Record Id to view the decimal Longitude and Latitude references.

Insert the decimal Longitude (-xx.xxxx) and Latitude (xxx.xxxx) references in the Suburb Distances screen in Venus.

The information is saved when you leave the screen.
To edit a postcode -

Highlight the postcode to be edited.
- Overtype as required.

The change is saved when you exit the screen.
To delete a postcode –

Highlight the postcode to be deleted.

Select Delete from right mouse click.

The change is saved when you exit the screen.
Calculating Distance
The distance between two suburbs can be calculated on the Suburb Distances screen.
To calculate a distance–

Using Find First on the top of the screen, enter the name of the first Suburb and select Tab or Enter.

Highlight the name of the Suburb on the top screen.

Using Find First on the lower half of the screen, enter the name of the second suburb and select Tab or Enter.

Select Calculate Distance.

The latitude and longitude of both suburbs and the distance between them is displayed.
