Data Entry > Types > Shift Types
The Shift Types tab records the default shift information for your Hospitals.
For Hospitals with shifts that have start and end times that are different to the information recorded on this tab, you can record their start and end times on the Hospital Shifts tab.
Adding a Shift Type
To add a Shift Type -
- Select Insert on the toolbar.
- Sort Order – The order the shifts will appear in the drop-down menus.
- Description – Name of the shift
- Override Rate Table – This field is completed if the new shift type has the same pay and charge rates as an existing shift, but the start and end times are different. The Override Rate Table field avoids duplication in the Rate Tables. E.g. There are two Morning Shifts, Morning 1 and Morning 2. Both shifts have the same pay and charge rates but start at different times. If Morning 1 is the existing shift type, when adding Morning 2 shift, Morning 1 would be selected in Override Rate Table column.
- Availability Shift Type – Link the shift to one of the three availability types (morning, afternoon and night).
- Default Start Time – The default start time.
- Default End Time – The default end time.
- Break Qualifying Shift (hrs) – The number of hours a nurse must work before they qualify for a break. Must be expressed as hours and minutes e.g. 8.30 = 8 hours and 30 minutes.
- Break (mins)– The break time allowed if the nurse works the number of hours specified under the Break Qualifying Shift. Must be expressed as minutes.
- Max Leave Accrual Hours – Type the maximum number of leave hours to be accrued for the shift or select “Max” for all. This field only needs to be completed if you have the “Leave Management Module”.
- To accrue leave on all hours of this shift type, select Max
- To accrue no leave on this shift type, enter the number 0
- To only accrue leave on a portion of a longer shift, type the number of hours for which leave will be accrued. Shifts shorter than this maximum will accrue leave for the duration of the shift only.
- Affects Super – Tick if payment for the Shift Type is included in Compulsory Superannuation Calculations.
- Active – Tick if the Shift Type is active. Remove the tick, if the Shift Type is no longer used.
- The information is saved when you leave the tab.
